Water culture · Spider Plant
Can a Spider Plant Grow in Water?
Yes. spider plants live happily in water indefinitely. Their fleshy white roots adapt readily to water culture, and the baby plantlets root in water naturally.
How long it lasts in water
Indefinite. Spider plants can spend their entire life in water if given liquid fertilizer monthly.
How to set up
For an established plant, you can transition root-bound divisions to water by rinsing soil away from the roots. For new water culture, root a baby plantlet in water and never pot it up. Change water every 1–2 weeks.
What can go wrong
Brown leaf tips are common in water culture (use filtered water to reduce mineral buildup). Algae growth in glass containers.
