Houseplant Care in April
April is peak growth season. This is the month your houseplants do their best work — and the month you can finally propagate aggressively.
Full-strength fertilizer cycle. Propagate cuttings now — root-out is fastest in April-May. Repot any plant you missed in March.
Light in April
Strong direct light returns. Pull sun-sensitive species back from windows. East windows are the sweet spot now for most species.
Watering in April
Highest frequency of the year for tropical species. Aroids may need water every 4–5 days in pothos-sized pots. Confirm with the finger test — don’t blanket-water.
Pests and problems to watch in April
Spider mite pressure drops with rising humidity. Mealybugs and scale stay year-round. Inspect new growth tips weekly.
What to plan now
Order cuttings or new plants now — shipping is safe (no freeze risk) and species will acclimate before summer heat.
