Root-bound · Pothos
Do Pothoss Like to Be Root Bound?
Tolerates. pothos handle being root-bound for a long time without complaint but don't actively benefit from it. Repot every 1–2 years for best growth.
What happens to a root-bound Pothos
Pothos vines slow down growth when severely root-bound but otherwise look fine. Variegated cultivars may revert to green more easily.
When to repot anyway
Every 1–2 years, or when soil dries within a day of watering, or when vines stop producing new leaves at their tips.
Signs the plant is TOO root-bound
Vines stop growing, leaves turn small and yellow, water runs straight through the pot without absorbing.

When it’s time to repot, see the Pothos repotting guide.
