Peace Lily Light Requirements

Peace Lily needs 100–500 fc, classified as medium light. Best window direction: North or east; avoid direct south or west.

How low can it go?

Tolerates 75–100 fc — one of the most low-light tolerant flowering plants. Will not bloom in low light, but the foliage stays healthy.

Signs your light is too low

No flowers; leaves stay healthy but the plant never blooms; slow growth.

How much is too much?

Bright indirect is the upper limit. Direct sun scorches leaves within hours.

Signs your light is too high

Yellowed leaves, brown crispy edges, leaf scorch from direct sun.

The most common Peace Lily light mistake

Expecting blooms in a dim corner. Peace lilies survive low light, but they only bloom in medium to bright indirect. If you want flowers, move it closer to a window.

Grow light substitute

A 15W full-spectrum LED triggers reliable flowering even in dark corners. Many growers use peace lilies as test plants for new grow light setups.

How to measure light at home

Download a free smartphone app like Light Meter or use a $20 digital light meter. Measure at the leaf surface, not the ceiling. As reference points: 50–100 fc is dim corner light; 100–400 fc is medium indirect; 400–1000 fc is bright indirect; 1000+ fc is direct sun.
