Signs your Peace Lily needs repotting

Roots circling out of drainage holes; pot bulging or cracking; soil drying within 1–2 days; plant dramatically droops within hours of drying, even with consistent watering.

Step-by-step

  1. 1
    Water thoroughly 24 hours before.
  2. 2
    Slide out the rootball.
  3. 3
Best time to divide: peace lilies grow in clumps; separate by hand into 2–3 sections with 2+ leaves each.
  4. 4
Pot in fresh mix at the same depth.
  5. 5
Water thoroughly. Keep in bright indirect light during recovery (NOT direct sun).
  6. 6
Expect droopy leaves for 1–2 weeks — normal transplant shock for peace lilies.

What kills Peace Lily after repotting

  • Burying the crown — causes rot in the central growth point
  • Direct sun during recovery — compounds shock with leaf scorch
  • Worrying about droopy leaves — it's normal for 1–2 weeks
