Step by step

Start with a stem cutting with at least one node.

  1. 1

Take a 4-inch stem cutting just below a node.

  2. 2

Strip lower leaves; leave 2–3 at the top.

  3. 3

Place node in room-temp water. Change weekly.

  4. 4

Bright indirect light, away from direct sun.

  5. 5

When roots are 2 inches, transfer to a humidity-retentive potting mix.

  6. 6

Mist daily or cover with a clear bag for the first 2 weeks after potting.

Common failure modes

  • Letting humidity drop below 40% during establishment — cutting dries out
  • Direct sun — scorches the young cutting
