The finger test — the only schedule that works
Stick a finger 1\u20132 inches into the soil. If it comes out clean and dry, water. If it comes out with soil stuck to it, wait. Iowa State Extension uses this as their published baseline for indoor watering.
Pot size matters: a Spider Plant in a 4-inch pot dries 2\u20133x faster than the same plant in an 8-inch pot. Light matters even more: a plant in a bright south window may need water twice as often as one in a north-facing room.
