Moving your Parlor Palm outside for summer

Move outside when nights are above 60°F. Deep shade is REQUIRED — parlor palms evolved on Central American forest understory and burn in direct sun. Place under dense canopy or on a covered porch.

Sun acclimation

No direct sun even after acclimation. Keep in deep shade.

When to bring your Parlor Palm back inside

Bring inside before nights drop below 55°F. Inspect for spider mites (common outdoor parlor palm pest).

Common mistakes

Treating like an outdoor palm with sun tolerance (yellow scorched fronds). Letting soil dry out completely (frond drop). Pots tipping in wind (parlor palms are top-heavy).
