Can a Pothos Grow in Water?
Yes. pothos can live indefinitely in plain water. It's one of the most reliable hydroponic-style houseplants and a popular setup for forgetful waterers.
How long it lasts in water
Indefinite. Pothos clippings rooted in water can stay healthy in water for years, though growth is slower than in soil.
How to set up
Take a cutting with at least 2 nodes. Submerge the node(s) but keep leaves above water. Use a clear glass so you can monitor root health. Change water every 1–2 weeks. Add a few drops of liquid fertilizer monthly.
What can go wrong
Algae growth (switch to opaque container if it persists). Root rot from stagnant water (change water more often). Yellowing leaves from nutrient deficiency (add liquid fertilizer).
